I have so often watched the Atlantic waves rolling in on Cornish beaches, when on holiday with my children. Body boarding was a revelation, playing with the energy of the waves, and never knowing whether you were going to experience a thrill or a beating. My son and family now live a few minutes from the ocean, and visiting there has re-ignited my delight in the interminable lines of breakers forming then thundering down on the intrepid surfers. I hope that these paintings communicate at least the sense of being there, the light and space, and the near insigniificance of the human figures.
